The capital Hora, with its colourful harbour in which little fishing boats nest happily side by side with luxury yachts, presents quite a different picture from that of the majority of Aegean island towns. While it is usual for island villages to be built on naturally amphitheatrically sites, Mykonos is spread out over a flat area and conveys an impression of solid aesthetic cohesion. DAY 7 –Thursday  Kea –Cape SounioPiraeus Departure from Kea at approx. 05:00 and sail to

Piraeus. Stop at Sounion. Arrival at Piraeus at approx. 16.00 The sanctuary at Sounion is one of the most important sanctuaries in Attica. Sporadic finds point to the conclusion that the site

was inhabited in the prehistoric period but there is no evidence of religious practice in

such an early date. “Sounion Hiron” (sanctuary of Sounion ) is first mentioned in the

Odyssey as the place where Menelaos stopped during his return from Troy to burn his helmsman.

The finds of the 7th century B.C. are numerous and prove the existence of organized cult on two points of the promontory: at the southern edge where the temple of Poseidon is situated and about 500 m. to the northeast of the temple, where the sanctuary of Athena was established.
